When I asked Leah what inspired their backyard wedding in Massachusetts, she said that her future husband Jon was the true inspiration. Jon requested that the wedding be “soon, outside, with fresh seafood, and on the coast.” And then Leah’s uncle called and mentioned this spot down the road from where her grandparents used to rent a home in the summer. From there, they found the first best weekend to gather their families and closest friends, and went full steam ahead with planning their intimate backyard wedding in Marion, MA.
This was such a laid back day. When I arrived, Leah’s brother was sitting at the dining table finishing the ceremony script, while at the kitchen table her mom and friend were folding napkins. They then set the table together. Leah’s devoted dog Bode followed her outdoors, up to sit with her as she finished transcribing her vows, and then walked her down the aisle with her parents. It was the best kind of ceremony – fully of emotion. And afterwords, Leah and Jon took a minute alone in the house, to hug and let it sink in. I heard Jon whisper over and over “I love you so much.” It was a piercingly sweet moment.
They joined their guests for cocktails on the lawn and then gathered for dinner in the garden. As the long summer evening faded into the inky blue of night, there was such a sense of warmth as they passed dishes and shared laughs around the candlelit table. And Bode found his place under the table, right between Leah and Jon.
