Chelley and Nick are two high-energy, loving, generous and goofy souls. Their emotional wedding ceremony was led by the same rabbi who had led Nick’s bar mitzvah, and was under a chuppah made from their grandfather’s prayer shawls. I love those threads of connection to their family, their history, and their community.
Nick and Chelley’s wedding reception achieved that wonderful combination of simultaneously (or alternately) feeling like a relaxed dinner party and the best dance party you’ve ever been to. Barcelona Wine Bar provided delicious tapas, paella and drinks throughout the event, with guests drifting between the inside and the outdoor patio to enjoy the early spring sunshine. Chelley and Nick met at an Israeli folk dancing club, so on top of the hora, there were other Israeli dances mixed in with the wedding standards. After the toasts, Nick surprised Chelley by serenading her with the sweet song “I Like You.” I’ve included one verse and the chorus below:
There are way too many love songs
And I think they’ve got it all wrong
Cause life is not the mountain tops
It’s the walking in between
And I like you walking next to me
Well, I like you, I like you
Even when I don’t try to
Yes, I do, that’s the truth
I like you
At the end of their reception, Nick and Chelley walked away hand-in-hand, and hopped on the T for their ride back to their hotel.
