There are so many ways you can start a story. There’s the always enchanting “once upon a time” or the campfire classic “it was a dark and stormy night.” You can start telling a story at the beginning, or jump in at the middle, or even start at the end and go back. To start my blog, I wanted to share some kind of story, but where to begin? I’d say that there are more decisive moments, and unappreciated-at-the-time moments, than any single decisive moment that lead to my current photography work.
So today you’ll get the story of one beginning, but there are others. Maybe I’ll share those on another day.
The better part of two years ago, I was curious to try my hand at taking engagement photos. I didn’t have any engaged friends, but I did have friends in love. And love and togetherness are really what you are celebrating in photographs like these, isn’t it? So I asked Meredith, and Meredith convinced Dave, and together we headed to one of their favorite parks on a mild January day.
We walked, played, and laughed. My knowledge of posing couples was nonexistent, so I asked them to hold hands, walk together, cuddle. Funny, but now knowing more about posing couples, I still do all the same things – though with a bit more finesse.
While out and about, a man asked if they were engaged. I think Dave was a little embarrassed.
Fast forward to December, and Dave proposed to Meredith. Fast forward again to this October, and the two are getting married. I’m so excited to be photographing their wedding down in Washington, DC. We’ll even be taking portraits in the same park. While I’ve photographed many engagements and weddings in-between, they’ll always be my first!
For now, here’s a peak into the past.
