Matt and Emily met in a philosophy class as first-years at the University of Rochester. It was not love at first sight. Emily was a little skeptical of Matt’s fashion choices – her Buffalo sensibilities at odds with Matt’s Massachusetts vibe. But they did eventually hit it off, dating through college. Matt even surprised Emily for a visit in Denmark where she studied abroad.
They moved to Cambridge for grad school – Emily at Harvard and Matt at Brandeis. That’s how we met – Matt is in the same history program as my husband, and Emily and I are now part of the same book club. These two like to host parties, and we’ve been the beneficiaries of their gatherings to watch the Patriots. Emily whips up a feast and always has inventive flavor combinations in her desserts. Matt is the mixologist, plying guests with cocktails.
We met up for their engagement session at their apartment in Cambridge and they started by making some tiki cocktails. (If you’re a little nervous for photos, having a drink beforehand is not the worst idea). We then walked over to Fresh Pond. Emily and Matt spend a lot of time there – going for runs and admiring the dogs in the park (Emily asked for an engagement puppy, but it hasn’t happened yet…) For as many times as I’ve driven past Fresh Pond, I’d never actually been. But Emily had a few spots she thought had potential, and I spied a few more, and together we made a wonderful set of images to celebrate where they are in their lives just now.
