Kristen and Ned wanted a fun and relaxed wedding with a coastal vacation vibe that would be a treat for their many out-of-town guests. They put so much into planning the day – from choosing the location on Duxbury harbor, to the invitations they designed themselves, and the meaningful songs played during the reception.
Ned got ready at a family home, and received a little bowtie assist from his sister. A letter from Kristen and a bourbon toast with the groomsmen rounded out his preparations. Nearby, Kristen donned her dress with the help of her mother, and maid and matron of honor. In one of those examples of wedding day multi-tasking, Kristen read her letter from Ned while others finessed the bow for her sash.
During the ceremony, the priest talked about building their marriage on a strong foundation. An apt description for these two architects. But the most memorable part was seeing Ned and Kristen’s happiness as they walked back up the aisle together, and then showed off their new rings.
After a few family portraits at the church, we headed to the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. The covered porch with its classic shingle siding was a great spot for the wedding party and couples portraits away from the rain.
Kristen and Ned made their reception entrance to the main Star Wars theme, a surprise from Kristen for Ned. And it wasn’t the only Star Wars detail – their cake topper proclaimed “‘I love you.’ ‘I know.'” Toasts are always one of my favorite parts of the day – not only because I get to hear about their childhoods, friendships, good deeds and sometimes questionable choices – but for all the wonderful expressions they make, the surprise, delight, laughter, and smiles.
After sneaking away for a few portraits at last light, Kristen and Ned thanked their guests for their presence, and asked them to join in singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, a special tribute to Ned’s late father. In a nod to where they met, the DJ played the crowd-favorite Buffalo Bills’ version of Shout!. From parents dances to the last dance, the floor was packed.
