Sam and AJ wanted their wedding to be intimate and relaxed, with the feel of a backyard wedding. “A millionaire’s backyard,” Sam joked “given how gorgeous the house and yard at Eisenhower are.”
They took great care to personalize their wedding. A friend who had gently nudged them toward each other junior year of college was given the honor of officiating. Under an azure August sky, they walked down the aisle together, heard readings from bell hooks and Carl Sagan, and exchanged personal vows.
As the sun sank toward the horizon, guests were invited to hear toasts to the couple, and then to join them on the lawn for sunset photos. AJ is an accomplished cook, so good food and drink was high on their list of priorities. When they returned to the tent, guests enjoyed stations stocked with dumplings, tacos and cupcakes – fuel for the dancing and mingling yet to come.
