One of the things that inspires and motivates me on a wedding day is family, and I know that is influenced by my own love for my family. So today, something a little different. Rather than sharing images and stories of my clients, I’m going to share some of my own. For the past several years, we’ve spent Christmas in Vermont at one of my sisters’ homes. These photos are from Christmas 2013, as I didn’t once take my camera out this past year.
There was freezing rain the night we arrived. The drive wasn’t great, but it sure was pretty the next morning with everything coated in ice and the sun shining over the Green Mountains.
On Christmas eve, my sister and the kids used Google’s Santa Tracker to check on his progress.
On Christmas morning, our stockings were full.
My dad helped my nephew assemble a small mechanical toy from his stocking while waiting for the rest of the adults to get up,
my mom snuggled my other nephew,
and my niece was pretty excited to unwrap her Angelina Ballerina doll.
In the afternoon, my sister made French 75s for the adults (my favorite)
and the kiddos got a special drink too!
Of course we had to play Othello, one of the gifts that had been unwrapped that morning. After winning a few rounds, my seven-year-old nephew observed it was tough to be the smartest person in the family. Note the not-impressed looks of his parents (who have an MD and PhD between them) and aunt.
We had a big roast for Christmas dinner, and continued the family tradition of the “meat picture.” I can’t tell you how many family photos we have posed around turkeys, hams and other roasts. My apologies to any vegetarians reading this.
The rest of vacation was devoted to playing inside and out. Ian received an electric guitar for Christmas, and wrote a song with our older nephew, while our younger nephew modeled a favorite shirt.
We headed out to the pond for some broomball and skating,
but first we had to clear off all the snow.
The clearing by the pond felt like a winter wonderland. Ian doesn’t really like having his picture taken, but he let me snap this one,
and then he took one of me,
and I got one of my pretty mama.
We headed inside to warm up, and for a little quiet reading time.
Kelly, what a gorgeous recounting of your holidays! We are so excited to be working with you this year. Happy New Year!
