I met Andrew back in high school. He was the new smart kid in class, who came in talking a mile a minute, with a love of Dave Mathews Band and the Toronto Blue Jays. The last I saw him was when he arrived in Cambridge a half-dozen years ago to start a history PhD at Harvard. Over the summer, Facebook showed me that he had proposed to his girlfriend in Venice. “How romantic,” I thought. And then one day, I answered the phone to hear “Hi, my name is Claire, I’m calling to find out about wedding photography.” I eventually put the pieces together, and was delighted to sit down with the two of them and hear about their story.
Andrew and Claire met during graduate school. Settlers of Catan was involved, though Andrew still doesn’t know how to play. Claire has come around to the Blue Jays, but still says no to DMB. Andrew came around to Claire’s love for archeology when he realized he could travel with her without doing any of the dirty work. She’s also imparted her love of running, and these two have completed marathons together.
I met up with them at their Cambridge apartment on Claire’s favorite day of the year – Halloween. They put on a Strumbellas record, poured some wine, and played with their three kitties – Ariadne, Hobbes and Josephine. We then walked around Mount Auburn Cemetery, accompanied by the silly strains of The Monster Mash and other tunes from Claire’s Halloween playlist. I loved seeing the lighthearted way they interacted, and I’m so excited to be photographing their wedding in New Orleans next month!
