There’s a certain energy when you walk into a hotel room with a bride, bridesmaids, sisters, and mother. A sense of anticipation that is bubbling along with the champagne. The scattered polaroids attesting to the fun already in progress.
Peggy and Anthony got ready for their wedding at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor. They were drawn to the beautiful city views, and the convenient location for their many out-of-town guests. After their first look, we hopped on a bus to Charlestown for their ceremony. As we crossed the Zakim bridge, where we had done some of their engagement photos, I made sure to make an image of it. I enjoy pulling those threads of stories together.
Peggy and Anthony married at their home church of Saint Mary – Saint Catherine. As the organ played Holst’s “I Vow to Thee, My Country,” they entered the church together. I like how they are framed in this image by the grand architecture. Weddings are big life moments, and I love finding ways to show that visually. And walking down the aisle equally and together is something I can get behind. During the ceremony, their priest turned to their friends to ask them describe Peggy and Anthony. Arising from much laughter in the first few pews, we heard how they were calmer and happier when together.
We returned to the hotel for their portraits, and used Boston’s city skyline as our backdrop. Dark clouds rolled in as we finished, but the first drops held off until the start of cocktail hour. The summer rain pattered on the tent throughout dinner and the start of dancing, but cleared in time for everyone to enjoy the nighttime views, and for Peggy and Anthony to sneak in a few last portraits with the city lights.
