One thing I talk about with a lot couples when they first inquire is their desire to enjoy their wedding day. For many that means good food and drink, maximizing their time with guests, not spending hours doing posed photos, and investing in the things that will enhance the experience. My couples care, and I love that quality in them.
But I’m going to let you in on a secret that doesn’t get mentioned a lot. There’s not a simple switch the night before your wedding or rehearsal, to help you go from planning mode to living it up in the moment mode. That’s why when I talk to couples in the weeks before their wedding, I encourage them to start letting go of expectations (if you practice yoga, this may sound familiar). A few days or a week before, let yourself be done with the planning. You’ve made your plans (and rain plans). You can’t control the weather, so if it’s not what you hoped for, take a moment to mourn and then move on. You can’t control your family; they will be themselves. You’ve hired great vendors, so trust them to do their jobs. Choose to enjoy the experience no matter what.
