I am not a big believer in fate, but every once in a while I hear a story that makes me wonder. Sara and Iain first crossed paths at a conference in Japan. At the time, Sara was working on her PhD at Berkeley, while Iain was similarly engaged at Oxford. They hit it off, but the path forward wasn’t clear, given their lives half-way around the world from each other. Their first date was a week in New York City, and they’ve been together ever since.
Sara and Iain were wed in the chapel at MIT, Sara’s alma mater. I love the image of Sara and her father running hand in hand toward the chapel entrance, with Sara’s white cowboy boots peeking out beneath her dress. The emotional ceremony was led by a friend and filled with song. One of the things I delight in as a photographer is catching all sorts of fleeting moments and expressions, and I loved seeing all the little looks shared by Iain and Sara throughout the wedding service.
Sara and Iain chose to greet all of their guests after the ceremony. Emotions are always high at this point in the day, so it was fun to capture images of all the big smiles and hugs. Following the receiving line, we headed to the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center for photos in the lovely, shady courtyard. I stayed for just the first part of the reception, and headed out as everyone was sitting down to big plates of barbecue.
