Emily and Matt took great care when choosing their wedding venue. They wanted a place that had its own light to shine, a place with nature, animals, a low-key vibe and inherent beauty. It was a tall order, but they eventually found Red Apple Farm in Phillipston, MA.
While these two don’t consider themselves particularly traditional, they decided to follow tradition and not see each other before the ceremony, which was held in a verdant clearing surrounded by apple trees and blueberry bushes. I love the image of Emily with her father on the rise above the ceremony site, with blue sky and white fluffy clouds above them.
After taking some portraits around the property, we returned to the barn where Emily had a surprise waiting for Matt – a vintage VW van, similar to one his family had when he was a kid. It had been set up as a selfie booth, with lots of fun props. Not to be outdone, Matt surprised Emily with Bosco sticks, a favorite food from her childhood in Michigan.
The hot afternoon mellowed into the most beautiful evening, and guests mingled outside following dinner. As the light faded, guests returned to the barn for a set by Matt’s gypsy punk band, the Somerville Symphony Orkestar.
