If you are a wedding photographer, or a resident of San Francisco, then you know that one of the prettiest places to get married is San Francisco’s City Hall. Being the former, but not the latter, I held it as an outside hope that I would ever get to photograph a wedding there. Then in January, I heard from Tiffany. She and her fiancé Hayden were planning an intimate exchange of vows at San Francisco City Hall, followed by dinner for 30 to celebrate.
I was thrilled to fly out there in April and document this momentous day for Tiffany, Hayden and their family and friends. It was an extra special treat because of the many familiar faces present – I had photographed Tiffany’s brother Eric’s wedding in Ann Arbor last August.
Tiffany and Hayden’s kindness, affection, and hospitality shone throughout the day. They got ready at home with their children, helping them with all the small details of their attire. I loved witnessing all the little touches and shared laughs. City hall was bustling when we arrived, and Tiffany and Hayden greeted their families before their wedding appointment in the clerk’s office. The ceremony itself was in the rotunda. Hayden’s sweet, funny and touching vows had Tiffany and many others tearing up. After the kiss, the congratulatory hugs, and some portraits around City Hall, the group headed to Morton’s Steakhouse. During the three-course meal, Tiffany read her vows to Hayden, and the couple was toasted by their friends and children, leading to more tears and laughter.
