Lauren and Chuck are two world travelers who share a love of adventure and a desire to make the world a better place. Thus it was fitting that during their wedding ceremony at the Stevens Estate, a friend read a passage from The Hobbit, a story that makes me think both of the excitement of adventure and the joy in coming home to those you love. Lauren and Chuck have built their home together in Washington, DC, after beginning their courtship at the Fletcher School (where we did their engagement photos this spring).
Lauren grew up outside of Boston, and so they returned here for their wedding. During the toasts, Lauren’s sisters shared a story about how a young 21-year-old Lauren was worried about finding someone to spend her life with. To cheer her, one sister made up a story about how she would meet a man named Charles, from England, who she would fall in love with and marry. It all came true – except for the detail that Chuck grew up in Florida.
Certain weddings will always be tied in my memory to specific songs. And for Lauren and Chuck’s Stevens Estate wedding, I think of how Chuck and his groomsmen took over the dance floor in a flying V formation, to hand over the mic to a friend for a live rendition of “Friends in Low Places” that had everyone singing along.
Special thanks to Allana of Ars Magna Studio for photographing along-side me for the day.
