With the saffron colored scarves draping the chuppah swept up in the wind, everyone beneath gathered close, cupping their hands to shield the nascent flame of the unity candle. This sense of beauty and community is what sticks with me when I think of Wendy and Ajay’s Stonehurst wedding. Their very personal ceremony on the lawn was led by a friend, and included a moment for all the guests to exchange greetings. Their family and closest friends stood with them in lieu of a wedding party. A reading from The Little Prince was echoed visually in a small tattoo of an illustration from the same book on Wendy’s wrist, which I spied during their portrait session.
It was important to Wendy and Ajay to create a wedding that was true to them and honored Wendy’s Jewish and Ajay’s Indian background. These two love hosting dinner parties, and wanted to bring that feel to their wedding. They worked closely with Forklift Catering to craft a menu that incorporated both of their culinary traditions. With help from friends, they even had their wedding cake brought all the way from India. Later on the dance floor, guests participated in the hora, Bollywood dancing, and the Goan mando.
