Kathryn and Ian met in high school through friends. They’d hang out and watch old Dr. Who VHS tapes. And by both their tellings, it took Ian a little while to realize that Kathryn liked him. After being together for seven and a half years, through college and long distance and medical school for Kathryn, these two were excited to bring everyone together to celebrate at their Turner Hill wedding this spring.
This was my first time photographing at the Mansion on Turner Hill in Ipswich. The stately grounds and landscaping made for an elegant backdrop for their first look and portraits. I loved seeing Ian’s delighted face when he saw Kathryn in her dress. She radiated a serene happiness at that moment and throughout the day.
Their ceremony was led by a family friend, and they were heralded in and out by a bagpipe band. Guests enjoyed cocktails outside before being ushered into the mansion for dinner. Kathryn and her mother had crafted the centerpieces together, including paper flowers from some of Ian’s comic books. But perhaps my favorite detail was the pair of “Dr” and “Mr” signs hanging on the backs of their chairs.
During the toasts, always a highlight, these two teared up and laughed. We heard about what a good friend Ian was – echoing something Kathryn had told me earlier that she admired about him. After they shared their first dance, everyone packed the dance floor for the rest of the evening. One of my favorite images was the last of the night, as Kathryn and Ian shared a kiss while in the background their community of friends and family clapped and cheered for the newly-wed couple.
