After we’d been talking on the phone for fifteen minutes or so, I heard a little hesitation in her voice. “The thing is, I don’t always look very happy in photos.”
This was just after I’d heard about how many things Kayla has to be happy about. She and her fiancé Peter had just returned from a month-long cross-country road trip, hitting 23 states and many national parks. These two love spending time together outdoors, not just on their road trip, but sharing summers on Martha’s Vineyard, weekends in Vermont, and a winter snow-shoeing proposal. They’re now planning a big backyard wedding on the Vineyard for this summer. And like any bride or groom, she wants the joy of their love to be present in the images.
We met up one afternoon and explored the beautiful springtime hills of Vermont. Engagement sessions are a wonderful time to get comfortable in front of the camera and with your wedding photographer. It was a delight to see these two together, and how Peter brought out Kayla’s unreserved smiles. What I knew all along was that when you’re deeply in love, the happiness is there and just waiting to be revealed.
