Kate and Jared were both a little tired of bad dates when had their first. But he was easy to talk to, Kate said, so they had a second. They both had dogs, and strong friendships, and careers they liked. And they wanted someone to share it with.
They gathered their friends and families together – Kate’s from New England and Jared’s from Kentucky – for their early summer Willowdale Estate wedding. Kate told me that her jaw dropped the first time she saw it, falling in love with the architecture and gardens. On their June wedding day, the peonies were in full bloom in the courtyard, and more were included in their bouquets and centerpieces.
Both Kate and Jared got ready at Willowdale. I loved the series of sweet moments as Kate prepared – opening her gift from Jared, the big hug with her dad, the look of pride on her mom’s face, and taking photo of her bridesmaids all dressed up. And of course, the first look she shared with Jared and his delighted reaction.
As guests arrived for the ceremony, I looked up to see Jared’s toddler niece with her face pressed against the glass of the window overlooking the courtyard. Wedding days bring so many people together, I love being able to show the experiences of not just the couple at the center of it all, but also what is happening at the edges. Their priest was so kind, and led a beautiful, personalized ceremony. Kate and Jared’s expressions were priceless, and full of joy as they recessed up the aisle.
They kicked off their reception under the tent with an emotional first dance. And it wasn’t just Kate and Jared tearing up, their parents were a little misty-eyed too. But soon they had everyone up and dancing with them.
