When we first met, they admitted that the Harvard Club was a bit of an ironic choice of venue for them – as they met while attending Yale. But Abby’s sister was a member, it was beautiful, and it was close to Trinity Church. They both got ready at the club with their parents and siblings.

Trinity Church Boston Wedding

After their first look on Commonwealth Avenue, we headed to Trinity Church for their wedding ceremony. This was the first time I’d photographed there, and also the first wedding held there since the start of the pandemic. Trinity Church is one of Abby’s favorite places – it’s where she was baptized, attended Sunday school and was confirmed. Before the start of the service, they gathered below the church to sign the register.

When I think back to their ceremony, what I remember is the music: the way the choir and congregation sang as Abby walked down the aisle, the way Abby and Ned held hands as they sang together during the service, and how to make communion safe for all their guests, it was offered on the church steps, so the final hymn was sung outdoors in Copley Square.

Harvard Club of Boston Wedding Reception

Back at the Harvard Club, Abby and Ned greeted their guests as they arrived t0 cocktail hour. I don’t see receiving lines very often, but they can be a wonderful way to have a moment with each of your guests, and always yield big hugs and smiles.

Harvard Hall was a cozy spot for their reception – with the roaring fires and lush fall floral arrangements. They even snuck in a nod to Yale in their decor, with the blue calligraphy for their table numbers. After the toasts – and so many months of distance – everyone was eager to fill the dance floor.
