portrait of a bride and groom at Ned's Point in Mattapoisett

I’m not a rule-breaker by nature, but when I first heard from Christina and Matt about their intimate Mattapoisett wedding, I broke a rule I had set for myself, which was I wasn’t going to photograph more than 20 weddings in 2022. I had already reached my limit. But when they wrote that they loved photographs of intimate moments between couples and families, I decided I wanted to learn more about these two and what they had planned.

When we first met over Zoom, I met two of the kindest people; even through a screen I could sense the tenderness and ease between them. They told me about how they met the old-fashioned way – their friends set them up on a blind date. Christina was skeptical, but agreed to it on a whim. Over their first date at a wine bar, Matt won her over with his engaging nature and genuine interest. She told me that he has a way of making everyone feel welcome – something I experienced when I arrived at their wedding many months later in October.

One of the most significant and sentimental choices they made was to get married in Christina’s parents’ backyard, a place that already held many special memories for them. They wanted a small wedding so that they could be fully present and enjoy meaningful time with each of their family members. I loved witnessing the many family contributions to the day – from Matt wearing his grandfather’s watch, to the ceremony officiated by Christina’s brother, the cake made by her sister, and the special table built to fit around the tent-pole so they could all be seated together for dinner. But my very favorite thing was seeing the quality of attention between the two of them – you get the feeling that just being together everything and enough.
